Theresa is holding a big flounder

In a recent publication, Theresa Henke and co-authors looked at what anglers think about European flounder (Platichthys flesus). Flounder is an alien species that has been swimming in Icelandic waters since around 1999 and can now be found in fjords, rivers and lakes in most regions of Iceland. In many regions flounder can be seen in the same areas of rivers as Arctic charr, brown trout and even Atlantic salmon. In their study they used online questionnaires to explore what anglers think of flounder, both in Iceland and in western Europe where it is native. Using different tools, they also looked at how the flounder was talked about in newspapers and on social media and how interested the public has been in this topic over the years.
